Your Luxury Heritage Retreat Venue in Santorini
Historical Villa Santa Croce
Historical Villa Santa Croce is a restored heritage retreat venue in Santorini. It’s located in Pyrgos, an inland hilltop medieval village that continues its slow everyday life while the caldera towns fill with crowds.
Designed for up to ten guests, Santa Croce is offered exclusively to one party at a time, guaranteeing the privacy, comfort and discretion of a truly private residence.
Four levels; a shaded patio, a panoramic terrace, a sundeck, and a cave pool cut into volcanic stone. There’s room to gather and room to keep to yourself.
Mindful Escape Tourism Recognition
Historical Villa Santa Croce is the first retreat venue in Santorini to receive the Mindful Escape Tourism Recognition, a distinction resting on five pillars a retreat actually needs: connection, slowing down, simplicity, silence & space, and authenticity.
Most visitors chase the sunset. At Santa Croce, true luxury begins after it...
An hour before the sun goes down, your group gathers on the terrace. You taste local organic wines, paired with products from an ecological Santorini farm, opening the senses without hurry. Ancient Greek music plays live on instruments you are invited to touch and sound yourself, alongside spoken poetry.
Then, as the final note settles and the sun meets the horizon, something unexpected happens…
It’s a full arc from stimulation to quiet, and it features as your retreat’s centrepiece.
Retreat leaders & facilitators
For retreat leaders and facilitators, the Sunset Ritual offers a seamless evening experience requiring no additional set-up. For executive teams, it fosters meaningful connections from the very first evening. For families and private gatherings, it becomes the shared moment guests cherish and remember long after their stay at Historical Villa Santa Croce.
Offered as aperitif only, wine and music, or the full ritual with dinner. We coordinate the sommelier, the musician, and the food. An optional dinner from the wood-fired oven can accompany your ritual experience.
Venetian Splendor
Pyrgos is one of the highest villages on Santorini, an inland settlement built outward from its Kasteli. It served as the island’s capital until around 1800, and the Kasteli, dated to roughly 1580, is among the best preserved of Santorini’s Venetian-era castle villages.
Historical Villa Santa Croce sits at a five-minute walk from the village centre, few steps from its tavernas and cafés, a short drive from the beaches of Kamari and Perissa, from Ancient Thera, and from Oia’s iconic views. The magic of Pyrgos is that it lets you embrace the island’s splendour when you desire it, yet retreat into its peaceful stillness whenever you wish.
Unveiling the Island's Magic
The ground level
The historical heart of the house, beneath the Kasteli. Living and dining around a fireplace and the traditional wood oven; the natural room for shared meals, learning sessions, and private gatherings.
The upper level
Faithfully reconstructed in its original form, this independent living space features a mezzanine, its own kitchen, and uninterrupted views across the island. Its self-contained design gives larger groups the freedom to share the home while maintaining privacy and flexibility whenever they need their own space.
The terrace
Accessible by a hand-carved stone staircase, the terrace unfolds into a private sanctuary with panoramic island views and an outdoor jacuzzi. A place for morning rituals, the Sunset Ritual, and evenings of dining beneath the stars, it captures the essence of Pyrgos living. The cave pool: cut into volcanic rock on the lower level, cool and quiet, a retreat from heat and sound rather than a feature to photograph.
The Cave Pool
Cut into volcanic rock on the lower level, cool and quiet. A private refuge from the heat and the outside world, it is designed for quiet immersion moments of peace and mindfulness.

A Story of Love, Resilience, and Vision
Wellness & retreat facilitators
Two independently usable levels, two outdoor spaces for morning practice with break taking views over the whole island, a cave pool for afterwards. You bring the programme; we arrange the space, the meals, and the local partners. It is ideal as an exclusive whole-house retreat for a small group.
Corporate offsites & leadership retreats
A private retreat for up to ten, offering the rare balance of seclusion and connection: a peaceful setting away from the island’s noise, with Pyrgos’s tavernas and quiet lanes just moments away. Brought back to life through the stories and memories of local neighbours, the house carries a sense of purpose and renewal—a setting that naturally encourages teams to think differently about what they are building together.
Private groups & celebrations
Anniversaries, reunions, milestones. Ten guests, five double beds, a wood oven, a terrace and a sundeck made for long evenings. Few properties in Pyrgos can host a party of this size while preserving the sense of comfort, authenticity, and belonging that makes a house feel like home.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN HERE
The house sets the pace; the days are yours to shape.
We work with trusted partners across the island—musicians, cooks, practitioners, artisans—and coordinate them around your group. Everything below is arranged on request as part of a stay.
Sound therapy on the terrace
An extension of the villa’s connection to ancient Greek musical traditions, these sessions bring together live instruments, and the natural acoustics of the open air at dusk. Guests are invited not only to listen, but to take up the instruments themselves and become part of the experience. A natural complement to the Sunset Ritual, or a memorable evening on its own.
A chef at the wood oven
A cook prepares local recipes in the traditional wood-fired oven alongside your group: locally-sourced ingredients, dishes from the island’s kitchen, a meal made and shared rather than delivered. Guests watch, learn, and cook. It is the villa’s most requested evening.
Yoga on the terrace
Begin the day with a quiet practice above the village, as the island opens out below. The first floor terrace offers a serene setting for small groups, complemented by the upper level sundeck as an alternative space for practice and reflection. Guests may bring their own facilitator, or we can introduce our local yoga teacher.
Creative & art sessions
Hands-on workshops led by working artists, offering guests the opportunity to create inspired by the house, the village, and the landscape around them. Unhurried and exploratory, these sessions are designed for those who want to engage, make, and discover—not simply step away from everyday life.
Massage & bodywork
Villa treatments for individuals or couples by experienced island practitioners, woven naturally into the rhythm of the day—a moment of care, calm, and renewal.
On the water & into the culture
Through trusted local suppliers we arrange boat days along the coast and cultural experiences across the island: winery visits, village walks, artisan encounters. Tailored to the size, interests, and pace of your group rather than offered as fixed excursions, each experience is designed to feel personal, flexible, and naturally connected to your stay.
Tell us who is coming and what you are gathering for, and we will build the days around it—a single signature evening, or a full programme.

Staying at the Historical Villa Santa Croce in Pyrgos was honestly magical. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the history and charm of the place. The villa itself has a beautiful minimalistic, rustic architecture that perfectly blends with the peaceful surroundings. The location is ideal, full of character, with stunning views, yet still close to everything you might want to explore on the island. Pyrgos completely stole my heart. It’s one of the only hillside towns in Santorini where locals still live, and you can really feel that authenticity in the atmosphere. The small streets, cozy restaurants, and hidden historical spots make it such a special place to wander around. The house staff were also incredibly friendly and helpful! they truly went above and beyond and made the stay ten times better. As a chef, these experiences were incredibly valuable to me. From discovering the town’s traditional cuisine through its local restaurants to actually learning and cooking those dishes in a beautiful, traditional Greek kitchen, it was an unforgettable culinary journey. The wood oven and fresh ingredients from the market brought out flavors I’ll never forget: simple, pure, and absolutely delicious. Evenings on the rooftop terrace were pure magic. Time just seems to slow down as you watch the sun set over the island. If you’re looking for something truly authentic and memorable in Santorini, I can’t recommend the Historical Villa Santa Croce enough. It’s a rare gem, full of beauty, history, and heart. And if you’re looking for a peaceful, relaxed time, I’d recommend visiting in early September, when the tourist season is slowing down and the towns are less crowded.Posted on Google Martha Jordan PardoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We absolutely loved our stay at this villa in Pyrgos! The house is a real gem, it has kept its original Greek architecture, so you feel immersed in Greece every second you’re there. At the same time, it’s super comfortable and luxurious, with a pool, jacuzzi, two kitchens, a terrace, and even a bathtub with a stunning view over the island. Our host told us the story of the villa. It once belonged to a wealthy local family and was carefully rebuilt following the neighbours’ memories of how it used to be. That made the experience feel truly special and authentic. We also got to cook with the traditional green stone oven. The flavours were unforgettable! Every morning, we’d have breakfast on the terrace, eating spanakopita from the bakery next door while admiring the breathtaking view of Santorini. Pyrgos itself is such a charming, traditional village, full of cozy cafés, real Greek restaurants, and picturesque little streets. It’s calm, authentic, and only a short 7 minute drive from the beach. It was a truly Greek experience we’ll never forget!Posted on Google Martha JordanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
